In addition to serving students in Kindergarten through third grade, Jefferson Elementary also houses four different types of preschool programs. The philosophy of this program is that the special needs students learn from the community based students and the community based student learn from the special needs students. Learning Together currently has 12 students in the morning section and 17 students in the afternoon section. We also have an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) autism program called the Theo Wright Center. At this time, seven ECSE students are served in the Theo Wright Center and the hours are 8:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Jefferson's third ECSE preschool is the Center-Based program which currently serves six students in the morning section and five students in the afternoon section.
Jefferson Elementary School offers a variety of experiences, focusing on the academic, emotional and social growth of children. Some unique opportunities for Jefferson students include a full-day, every day kindergarten program, Title I services for reading and math, two Minnesota Reading Corps members, an autism preschool and an autism 1-3 resource room. Students also receive physical education and music taught by specialists for 90 minutes weekly. In addition, media/computer, CRIC and art classes are also taught by specialists once a week.
Jefferson Elementary School welcomes parents and community helpers both in and out of the classroom.
